Composition #1 Short-Short Story

Love Almost Killed Me

She’s only that way because she got hurt. She doesn’t have a care in the world, the only people that matter in her life is her son and his father. Yeah his father, he’s a big time jerk. He cheats, beats, and steals from her but she still loves and accepts him. What a shame he mom thought as she sat at the table looking in her daughter’s face which was swollen and discolored. “Why did he hit you this time Tasha?” she asked in a sarcastic voice as if this was just a rewind of a movie she’s seen thousands of times before. “Mom he hits me because he cares about me and our son.” Tasha replied. “No!” her mom answered you don’t hit the people you love. I’ve never put my hands on you and even though your father and I have a rocky relationship he never hits me! “Ok whatever mom” she replied as she stormed out the room, then her mom yelled “love is going to kill you one day Tasha”! “Oh shut up ma” Tasha replied. Tasha pulled her jacket out the closet knocking over a lot of other coats and just left out the door. It took Tasha an hour to get home from her moms house and she had to stop at the store to. God she thought to herself I deserve much better. Then the wise word her mom spoke played back in her head “Loves going to kill you” but she had to get those thoughts out her head because she considered herself lucky. She has a beautiful son, a healthy mother and a wealthy man that beats her from time to time but wounds heal she thought. She returned home 30 minutes later than usual and Tyshawn her loving man as she calls him was highly upset….. “Tasha where you been all day? You late!!”  Tyshawn I had to go see my momma and then go to the grocery store, give me a break! “I’m   going to give you a break” Tyshawn said getting ready to hit her until he heard Tyshawn Jr.  say “mama’s home”.   “Hey baby” this wasn’t the first time her son saved her from a beating! “Did you miss mama?” she asked him while staring into his beautiful green eyes. “Yes, I missed my mommy” he replied smiling also making his father smile. “Man this boy save you all the time” he said with a crooked smirk. “I know right, I love my son” she began to laugh knowing that the things going on in her life weren’t right at all. That night Tyshawn insisted that there son goes to his parent’s house, Tasha didn’t feel too comfortable with the whole situation. Tyshawn dropped Jr. off around seven o’clock that evening, while Tasha stayed home cleaning up and cooking. Tyshawn walked through the door with hate in his eyes, Tasha knew something was wrong. He came into the kitchen and stepped close to her. “What do you want Tyshawn” Tasha said as if she was tired of him being in her presence. “I’m tired of you, I’m tired of being in this relationship with you Tasha” he screamed. “Leave then” she replied. “No, you about to leave” he replied putting a gun to her head. “Tyshawn why are you doing this we have a son” she said. “I have a son he replied” before her could pull the trigger Tasha ran for the door, she felt a sharp pain in her back and after that she blacked out. “Tasha, wake up baby” she heard a familiar voice say. Tasha woke up in shock to be in a hospital bed. “What am I doing here?” she asked. “You’re going to be okay after all” her mom replied. “What happen to me mom?” Her mom explained that Tyshawn shot her in her back, and then killed himself. A brush of relief came over her face she was happy at the face Tyshawn was dead, but she was upset that her son would have to grow up without a father. She explained to her mother how she knew something bad was going to happen, and her son walked in the room. It hurt her heart because she knew she had her son in danger by keeping his father around. “Where’s daddy?” Jr. asked. “He’s gone son, he’s gone”.
