Composition #2: NLCP Writing Contest

Just Believe!

Farrah lived on the dark side of Brooklyn New York in a small rundown apartment building. Farrah hates where she lives but it’s not much she can do about it, her father left before she was born and her mother is struggling to support her and her two younger twin brothers. Farrah tries hard in school so that she can be successful and come back and help her community, but Farrah’s only 12 so she has a long time before all that happens. Farrah shares a room with her two younger brothers, but she really doesn’t mind because it’s better than sleeping on the floor. Farah is a really sweet girl with a heart as big as the sun.  Farrah loves and cares dearly about everyone she meets. Farrah usually takes the bus to school but this morning she had to walk because her mother had no money. This wasn’t the first time this happened but Farrah didn’t mind because it was a lovely day outside. Farrah took the long way around the neighborhood to avoid walking through the park alone. Usually it’s no one outside this early but this morning it was a tall beautiful lady there. As Farrah walked pass the lady called her name and at first Farrah thought it was just her mind playing tricks on her, but the lady called her name again. The lady had the softest prettiest voice Farrah had ever heard. Farrah turned around and to her surprise the lady was looking directly at her. Farrah just stared and examined the woman’s beauty for a while, she had big green eyes, Farrah never seen something so pretty she was over whelmed. The lady told Farrah that she looked like something was troubling her and then she began to tell Farrah everything that was wrong with her. Farrah couldn’t believe the things she had just heard it was like she knew this lady all her life it was actually scary. Before Farrah could ask the woman her name she disappeared. Farrah couldn’t believe what had just happened; she thought she was going crazy so she just left it alone. Farrah thought about what happened during school and all the way up until she got home that evening. As Farrah sat on the couch falling asleep, she heard the same voice from earlier that day. It was the same woman from earlier but this time sitting right next to her. Before Farrah could get up the lady pulled her back down. Farrah asked who she was and she replied her Fairy God Mother. Farrah thought it was a joke, who believes in Fairy God Mother’s. Then the lady began to tell Farrah ways she could help fixing where she lived, but Farrah thought she could never do it alone. Her fairy God Mother told her that she could fix everything and that all Farrah had to do was believe.  Farrah thought how could she do that and before she could ask that lady disappeared again. Before Farrah went to bed she called her fairy God Mother and before she knew it she was there.  Her Fairy God Mother had the biggest smile ever and all she said was that it’s done you finally depend and believe in me. Farrah actually started believing in her and after they talked she went to sleep.  Farrah had to walk to school again the next morning but when she stepped out the house she couldn’t believe her eyes. Everything was beautiful the streets were cleaned, flowers were everywhere and she knew all that was possible because she finally believed.
